Cycling in the Spotlight

Cycle provision across Northallerton is to come under the spotlight next month.

It will be the main topic of conversation at the Northallerton and Villages Community Forum’s  Annual General Meeting on 14 October.

“A recent review of the Community Plan for the area has suggested that there is a need to improve facilities for cyclists across Northallerton and the surrounding villages to encourage greater use,” said Sally Anderson, Chair of the Forum

“A representative from SUSTRANS, the national charity which seeks to promote cycling and other sustainable transport initiatives, will be at the meeting to discuss how we can work together to share resources, expertise and local knowledge to ensure that Northallerton is a ‘cycle-friendly’ destination and to create cycle links between Northallerton and the surrounding villages and to promote existing SUSTRANS routes.

“Over the next five years there is a great deal of change to come to Northallerton and the surrounding villages, so it is more important than ever to focus on creating spaces and opportunities for people to live positive and active lives. People are at the heart of our community so we want to make sure that our Community Plan is people-friendly.”

The meeting will also consider some of the issues raised as part of the Community Plan review and will be looking to identify community projects that will help address and resolve these issues.

All residents from across Northallerton and the surrounding villages are welcome to attend the AGM at 4pm at the Civic Centre, Stone Cross, Northallerton.
