Darlington Building Society Raises £600 at It’s a Knockout Competition

17864A team of Darlington Building Society staff has raised £600 for a local charity during an ‘It’s a Knockout’ style competition at Darlington RFC’s Blackwell Meadowfields ground.

The team made up of staff from Darlington Building Society head office took part in the competition in aid of Groundwork North East & Cumbria. The day saw teams going head-to-head against one another in challenges that included an inflatable obstacle course, problem solving and dancing.

All of the money raised from the event will go towards funding a series of Groundwork NE & Cumbria projects in the region.

Darlington Building Society actively encourages its staff members to help local charities and provides them with at least one paid volunteering day per year, which the team used to take part in the competition.

Colin Fyfe, Chief Executive of Darlington Building Society, said: “Supporting local charities and causes is a big part of the Society’s ethos and I’m proud to see our staff taking advantage of our paid volunteering days to help raise funds for such a worthwhile cause.

“Darlington Building Society is proud to assist Groundwork as it looks to deliver positive changes to communities through providing training and improving job prospects.”

Groundwork Partnerships Manager Michele Armstrong said: “The It’s a Knockout event, which was part of our 30th anniversary celebrations, was a great success and brought in £6,000 to help fund Groundwork’s life-enhancing projects across the region.

“All the participants really enjoyed themselves and put their heart and souls into the whacky and fun challenges. Groundwork is grateful for their fantastic support.”

Groundwork is a social enterprise that is dedicated to transforming people’s lives and the communities in which they live. This is achieved through environmental improvement programmes, training and work placement schemes, and practical initiatives to tackle climate change and help businesses improve their green credentials.

The Darlington Building Society Team members were Marc Gillham, Matthew Booth, Nicola Tweddle, Wendy Bailey, Clare Storey & Duncan Spence.
