Ruth Murray, who works at the Building Society’s Barnard Castle branch, recently took part in the Total Warrior obstacle course in Leeds. The 12 kilometre course consisted of 30 punishing and challenging obstacles and Ruth battled ice cold water, thick mud and even electric shock wires.
Ruth completed the demanding course to support the Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue team. The team, which is made up of 50 volunteers, operates 24 hours a day, providing potentially life-saving support to the whole of Country Durham, from the High Fells in the West to the North Sea’s coastal communities.
In total, Ruth donated £305 to the Search & Rescue team.
Ruth Murray said: “I am delighted to have raised so much money for the Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue team. The service saves people’s lives on a regular basis and this money will help to keep this vital service running.
“Running the Total Warrior course was one of the toughest experiences of my life but it was also one the best! I managed to escape with just a few cuts and bruises but it was worth it knowing that it was all for a worthy cause.
“I would like to thank Darlington Building Society for helping to increase the total I raised with its very generous donation. This helped to double the final total and will make a real difference.”
