Dates for a series of community drop-in sessions for local people wanting to find out more about a proposed new residential development near Chester-le-Street have been revealed.
Durham-headquartered employer Banks Property is developing proposals for a new housing scheme on a 7.4 hectare site on Pelton Lane, Pelton.
The scheme could include up to 200 new homes, and is being designed to bring a range of economic, employment, environmental, supply chain and social benefits to the area.
After announcing the scheme earlier this month, family-owned Banks Property will be holding drop-in sessions at Pelton Community Centre between 11am and 6pm on Thursday 24 November, from 11am to 4pm the following day and between 9am and noon on Friday 2 December.
Further sessions will be held in the Community Rooms at Pelton Roseberry Primary School between 3pm and 6pm on Monday 5 December, and from 3pm to 7pm on Monday 9 January.
As well as giving local people to chance to provide feedback on the proposals and ask questions, the project team will also be looking for residents’ ideas on how the development could support local priorities for community improvement.
Further consultation meetings are taking place with the Parish Council and other community representatives, while leaflets have been delivered to each household in the area from the company outlining what could be included with the proposals, as well as how the community can get involved in identifying the benefits it could bring.
Lewis Stokes, community relations manager at The Banks Group, which employs around 126 people from County Durham, says: “We’re in the very early stages with the project, but we we’re pleased with the positive local discussions that we’ve had so far around our Pelton Lane proposals.
“We’re keen to keep everyone up to date with what we’re doing, but more importantly, we want to provide further opportunities for local people to tell us what they think about our ideas and how they think the development could provide various benefits to enhance the local area in ways that the community would like to see.
“Our Pelton Lane scheme would be located on a site that has previously been identified as suitable for this sort of development, and is in an area where we are certain there will be strong demand for the homes that would be built on this site.
“We have a strong track record of developing sites across County Durham which provide both quality new homes and a range of other benefits to the community, and hope to be able to further enhance it through this scheme.”
A planning application for the development is expected to be submitted to Durham County Council within the next couple of months. For further information on the Pelton Lane scheme, and to sign up in support of it, please visit www.banksgroup.co.uk/peltonlane
