Disney On Ice invites Girl Guides to Dream Big

Disney On Ice invites Girl Guides to Dream Big!

Members of Girlguiding in North Tyneside and Newcastle have joined forces with Disney On Ice to offer members the opportunity to let their creative juices flow, and win a truly magical treat.

Disney On Ice presents Dream Big is playing at the Utilita Arena, Newcastle this December, and the hugely popular ice show has run a special competition for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers in the North Tyneside and Newcastle area.

The winning design came from Brianna Barrass, from 2nd Killingworth Rainbows and Brownies. Brianna, 6, has had the outfit she designed brought to life by award-winning fashion and costume designer Paul Shriek, and she will proudly wear it when attending Disney On Ice presents Dream Big on the opening night of 7th December at Utilita Arena, Newcastle, alongside 30 of her fellow Girlguiding members.

The winning group will see Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and stars from Frozen, Moana, Coco, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, The Princess and the Frog, and more take part in this always popular ice skating spectacular.  After the girls have enjoyed every magical moment of breathtaking ice skating and beloved Disney stories, they will all enjoy a private rink-side meet and greet with the stars of the show.

Brianna, who joined the Rainbows earlier this year, was shocked to hear she had won first prize in the competition, saying: “I couldn’t believe it when our group leader announced the winner, and it was me! All of my friends rushed to give me a hug to congratulate me, and they were really thrilled we were all going to see Disney On Ice! I am so excited to see the show, and I can’t wait to wear my dress to the opening night and to meet the cast afterwards.”

Brianna’s winning design was created with Anna from Frozen in mind. “I chose to design a dress for Anna” Brianna explained “as she is just like me with the same ginger hair!”

Fashion and Costume Designer Paul Shriek commented:

“It has been an absolute thrill to be involved in this creative challenge. In this digital age, it is refreshing to see the younger generation engaging with actual hands on drawing and design. It is obvious from the entries that the girls researched and observed their favourite Disney characters to enable them to create an outfit that would certainly guarantee they were dressing to impress!

“I must say well done to everyone who took part, it was a really tough call choosing a winner, but Brianna’s  design stood out as it was a great starting point to enable us to collaborate, using her imagination and my skills – I’m so pleased this fabulous budding fashionista could realise her dream frock!”

North Tyneside County Commissioner Irene Johnson added:

“Girlguiding offers girls the chance to experience many magical moments during their involvement in Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, and we’re delighted to continue our association with Disney On Ice this year. 1,200 members from 91 units were offered the chance to enter the competition, and girls taking part in the initiative earned a special Disney On Ice badge they can wear with pride. We are thrilled that so many girls enjoyed putting their creative skills to the test – they clearly have a passion for fashion! Seeing this amazing show is a truly magical experience, and the chance to have a private meet-and-greet with the stars of the show is certainly the icing on the cake!”
