Durham BID celebrates multiple wins at regional awards ceremony

Durham BID and several businesses from the City are celebrating wins at the 2016 Amazing Durham Awards.

Aimed at celebrating the achievements of the businesses and communities in Durham, the Amazing Durham Awards, held at Ramside Hall recognised the hard work of the businesses and communities within the county.

Durham BID businesses made up more than 50 per cent of winners with Durham BID’s business engagement manager Adam Deathe picking up the County Champion Award.

Commenting on Durham BID’s success, Adam Deathe said: “We’re over the moon that Durham BID and its businesses have been so successful at the Amazing Durham Awards. I would like to congratulate all of the winners at this year’s event, especially those who are members of the BID. It’s great to be able to celebrate Durham and demonstrate the City’s positive attitude and fantastic offer and events like Amazing Durham do exactly that – we’re already looking forward to next year.

“The businesses in Durham City work so hard to make our City a great place to visit and ensure that Durham City has plenty for visitors to enjoy all year round, from shopping and dining, to heritage and special events. Even this month, we have Live in Durham with music and family activities across October’s third weekend. The businesses here are what make such events so successful and great fun for everyone.”

Among the winners at the awards were Treats (Medium Business of the Year), Moon Jewellery (Online Business of the Year), Woven (Family Business of the Year), Sirens (Independent Business of the Year), Helen Ward – Sirens (Entrepreneur of the Year), Lauren Thompson – Moon Jewellery (Young Entrepreneur of the Year), Chris Hayes (Business Ambassador of the Year), and Durham Cathedral (Charity Event of the Year).

The Amazing Durham Awards were organised by The Konect Group following the success of the Amazing Wearside Awards in 2015.

Gavin Brown, Chief Executive at The Konect Group, said: “Our vision was to host an event to celebrate all that is amazing about Durham. We were delighted with the support and level of interest gained through the awards and hope that Amazing Durham will become a firm fixture in the calendar, we’re already planning the 2017 event.”

Adam Deathe added: “Winning County Champion serves to further endorse the incredible Durham offer, comprising all BID businesses each with their own unique qualities which add to the overall Durham City experience. Without such a strong offer, it would be impossible to promote Durham so it’s safe to say the County Champion award is for all involved in the BID, not just in the office or at Board level but all BID businesses too.”
