Durham prepares for the Northumbria in Bloom judges

Volunteers who give up their time to make their communities a more beautiful place to live, work and visit are gearing up for a visit from the Northumbria in Bloom judges.

The judges will visit Durham City and Chester-le-Street this week to assess the horticultural developments and projects that have taken place so far as part of this year’s Northumbria in Bloom competition. The results will form part of the overall assessment when they visit again in July.

The entries, led by the respective community volunteer ‘In Bloom’ groups and submitted with support from Durham County Council, will see Durham City representing the small city category and Chester-le-Street flying the flag for County Durham in the large town category.

Judges will also have the opportunity to meet some of the local volunteers, community groups and organisations who support and take part in schemes and projects throughout the year.

Spring judging will take place on:

The competition results will be announced in September.
