CUSTOMERS at a Cullercoats pub can enjoy a first class meal and support charity at the same time.
The Sandpiper, at Farringdon Road, which has gained a following among foodies for its contemporary takes on classic pub dishes, has unveiled a new menu for spring/summer.
And, for every order of its signature bangers and mash or Caesar salad, the pub – owned by Newcastle-based Malhotra Group plc – will donate £1 to The Prince’s Trust.
The Prince’s Trust was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales to transform the lives of young people by providing access into jobs, education and training, is the Malhotra Group’s nominated charity for 2019.
“So, we’ve picked two perennially popular dishes in the hope of raising as much as possible for this exceptionally worthwhile cause,” said manager, Mark Johnson.
Like the sausages and mash and Caesar salad – which is topped with grilled chicken, bacon and garlic croutons – every dish on the menu is prepared from scratch by The Sandpiper’s team of chefs.
Along with main course favourites, such as homemade steak and mushroom pie, scampi and gammon with fried egg and pineapple, diners can opt for burgers, pizzas or salads.
For lighter meals, there are sandwiches with fillings such as sausage and onion gravy or fish fingers and chicken, goat’s cheese or pulled pork wraps.
Vegetarian dishes include a vegan salad, with quinoa, broccoli, raisins and walnuts, a falafel and quinoa burger in a vegan bun and spinach, chickpea and cauliflower curry.
The Sandpiper is also launching a special offer on its children’s menu, which features everything from cheese burger and pizza to macaroni cheese along with desserts such as Eton mess gateau, sorbets and sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce.
Between Monday and Friday, children can eat for just £1 with every adult main course purchased.
