Ebac Announces Lumiere Durham Family Partnership Competition

18137North East manufacturer Ebac is supporting this year’s Lumiere as ‘family partner’ of the UK’s largest light festival, which takes place this year from Thursday 12th-Sunday 15th November.

Originally planned as a one-off in 2009, the festival has since returned to the North East of England every other year, and in 2013 it was attended by a record 175,000 people over four days.

As part of its involvement with the festival, and to celebrate its new range of British-made washing machines, Ebac has launched its ‘Design the Lumiere Durham Washing Machine’ competition for children aged between 4 and 11 years old in the North East.

Youngsters are being challenged to use their creativity and imagination to design a washing machine, which will be displayed in the Lumiere Visitors’ Hub.     The winning child will be presented with an Ebac washing machine, using the design, for their family.

Darren Feasey, senior product manager at Ebac, said:  “Lumiere is a magnificent event for County Durham, and as a business based in the area it is important that we give as much support as possible.  Ebac is a very family-orientated company so to be the family partner has a great synergy.

“This year will see the first British-made washing machines for decades come off our production line and, together with Lumiere, this showcases County Durham as an innovative, exciting and happening place for business and leisure.

“We hope that lots of children will enter our competition and we are really looking forward to seeing some fantastic designs.”

Sarah Coop, Development Director for Artichoke, the charity which produces Lumiere said, “We’re delighted to be teaming up with Ebac to launch this competition and we can’t wait to see how children in the North East will be inspired to design the official Lumiere Durham washing machine.

“They might want to create a design based on their favourite installation from a past festival, what they’re most looking forward to about the next Lumiere – or surprise us with something completely different.”
