Echo-U managers receive a pie in the face for charity

Employees at Newcastle-based contact centre, Echo-U have been supporting their colleague on her journey to help Rohingya refugees with a ‘Pie Your Manager In The Face’ charity challenge.

Muslima Miah, a team leader at Echo-U North, who also runs Hexham-based Refugee Aid Network (RAN), organised the event to raise money for the charity which provides life-saving humanitarian aid across war torn countries.

Established by seven activists, RAN is centred round a 100 percent donations policy, which means its team works full-time to fund, plan and deliver missions in areas which other charities are unable to reach or require additional resource.

This summer will see Muslima travel to Rohingya in Bangladesh to provide assistance with funding a water well project as well as food, education and arts supplies to refugees. To help Muslima with her fundraising, the team at Echo-U North participated in the ‘Pie Your Manager In The Face’ charity event, raising £140.

Muslima said: “Our trip is self-funded so every penny donated will go directly to the people of Rohingya most in need. We have raised over half of our £20,000 target so far, and it was amazing to see the team at Echo-U being so supportive and helping me on my way, every penny really does count. It was a great event and people across all levels of the business really got into the spirit of things.”

Mandy Holford, director of customer services at Echo-U, added: “Refugee Aid Network is a fantastic charity which is providing essential support to some of the world’s most vulnerable people. We were delighted as a company to be able to help Muslima with her fundraising efforts ahead of her trip to Rohingya.”
