Ethical companies like B Corporations are completing funding rounds a fifth faster (22%) than traditional firms[1], reveals Crowdcube data, with home setup service Just Move In recently hitting its target within 24 hours.
Companies with B Corporation status completed their funding round on Crowdcube in 17 days on average, compared to 22 days for traditional firms.
Almost three quarters of investors (74%) said they wanted their funding to make a positive difference to the world, and more than four in five (81%) choose their investments to fit their personal values.
In November last year, home setup service and B Corp, Just Move In, hit its crowdfunding target within 24 hours and raised £1.77 million by the time it closed.
Just Move In recently highlighted the work which needs to be done by estate and letting agents to become more sustainable in its Getting Our House In Order report, which questioned more than 150 UK agencies
More than a quarter of estate and letting agents (27%) see sustainability as a ‘box-ticking exercise’ and almost nine in ten firms (87%) don’t have a net zero strategy for reducing their carbon emissions. However, more than half (54%) believe the issue is becoming more important for the industry.
Ross Nichols, Co-founder of Just Move In, said: “We’re hugely proud of our status as a B Corporation, and it’s rewarding to see that investors feel the same way about its importance.
“Completing our funding round in 24 hours wasn’t wholly due to our pledge to do business ethically, but it’s clear that investors are increasingly putting their money where their heart is.
“We’ve tried to lead from the front in the property industry, and this data from Crowdcube shows that those who do so will reap the rewards.”
Matt Cooper, Chief Commercial Officer of Crowdcube, said: “The 1980s mantra of Greed Is Good is long gone, and we’re seeing a new breed of investors who want their money to help make the world a better place.
“Just Move In was quick to hit its funding targets, and we’ve seen many more companies attract investors with their ethical ethos.”
