Eight Ways To Stay Looking Youthful

It’s many people’s dream to stay looking younger even as we get older. Life, pollution, even our DNA can all conspire to change the way we look, but there are some ways that we can stay looking as youthful as possible. These beauty ‘rules’ can be followed in any order you like, or you can miss some out altogether if they don’t suit your lifestyle but trying at least some of them should give you a healthy, youthful glow.

Maintain A Steady Weight

One of the simplest yet perhaps most difficult beauty regime to keep to if you want to look more youthful is maintaining a steady weight. A good way to go this is to cut down portion sizes on your three main meals and start eating five smaller meals instead. This includes breakfast, a mid-morning snack, lunch, a mid-afternoon snack, and then dinner. This boosts your metabolism more regularly, and therefore it works in a much more efficient way.

Another way to avoid over-eating is to drink a large glass of water before dinner. This will fill you up in advance, so you will eat less. If you find that you’re hungry later on, you can have some fruit or a healthy snack to fill you up properly.

Use Sun Cream

The UV rays from the sun can play a big part in making us look older as they cause wrinkles, age spots, and other signs of aging. It’s a wise idea to put sun cream on you every time you go outside. You should do this all year round, but it’s especially important during the summer months because the sun cream will also protect you from burns. We can all laugh about the British weather and how it never gets warm, but UV rays don’t have to be hot to cause irreversible damage; they can even cause skin cancer.

Try Botox

If you want to get a head start on looking youthful why not try Botox Birmingham? Botox is short for botulinum toxin and is a non-surgical way to smooth wrinkles and fine lines away, and it works by temporarily giving the muscles a reduction in their movement. The muscle is paralysed for between three and six months, after which you will either return to ‘normal,’ or you can have another Botox treatment.

Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliation is a fantastic way to have a youthful appearance. It is the best way to ensure that your skin looks glowing and soft, plus it helps to stop your pores clogging up (and that keeps acne at bay). Exfoliation can even help with uneven skin tone, and of course – most importantly – it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

When it comes to exfoliation, you can use a manual exfoliator or a chemical one, but if you are thinking of using some of the stronger treatments available, it is a good idea to consult with your GP first because if you have sensitive skin, harsh chemicals can do more harm than good. There should be something available to suit your skin type, so always read the label and do your own online research in addition to talking to the experts so that you can be entirely sure of what you’re using.

Hydrate and Moisturise

Skin that dries out easily will always look older than properly hydrated and moisturised skin which is why it is important to ensure that you have a regular beauty regime that includes giving your skin the moisture it needs.

Some people shy away from cosmetic creams because they are sensitive to them, or even allergic. This means that their skin becomes uncomfortable and itchy, or perhaps their eyes swell up a little. So instead of using moisturisers, they don’t use anything at all. What they should be doing is using completely natural, organic moisturisers such as almond oil, rosehip cream, or argan oil. There are many to choose from, and they shouldn’t cause any problems with your skin’s sensitivity. As well as putting these oils and creams on each morning and night, you should also spray your face with water regularly throughout the day.

Be Positive

Feeling positive and happy on the inside has a definite influence on what you look like on the outside. Therefore, it is important to foster a sense of positivity wherever you go and whatever you do. For some people this is easy; it’s their natural state. For others, negativity is a much easier way of looking at things – if something goes right, it’s a bonus, but at least you won’t be disappointed if things go wrong when you’re already expecting them to.

It will take practice to get yourself out of this mindset and become a ‘glass half full’ kind of person if you’ve been used to looking at a glass that’s half empty. One way to become more positive is to smile more, even if you don’t mean it at first. Try smiling when you feel yourself frowning, and you’ll reduce your wrinkles right away. Over time it will become much more natural. Another thing you can do is practice gratitude; think of all the things you’re grateful for, and that should help to give you a positive mindset.

Exercise More

Exercise is a great way to get fit and healthy, lose weight, and look more youthful. That’s because exercising makes you feel positive and happy thanks to the endorphins that are released into your body when you work out. As mentioned above, being in a positive mood will make you look younger, but exercise also works by reducing your stress levels. When you’re stressed, you will look older, so being less stressed will have the opposite effect.

Sleep Well

You may think that beauty sleep is a myth, but actually getting a good night’s sleep on a regular basis will do wonders for your appearance. It will boost your energy levels, help you keep your weight down, relieve stress, and reduce the chances of you having a heart attack or stroke, or developing type 2 diabetes. You need around six to eight hours a night (how long exactly will depend on your own genetic makeup), and it will need to be quality, comfortable, unbroken sleep to do a good job.
