Exercise Projects Can Benefit From £200k Of Grants

TABLE tennis aerobics is just one initiative to benefit from grants for physical activity programmes in Middlesbrough – and there is still almost £200,000 available.

Middlesbrough Council’s Public Health Physical Activity Fund has already awarded cash to three innovative projects aimed at getting people active.

They are:

Alan Ransome from Ormesby Table Tennis Club said: “We think aerobic table tennis is a terrific programme, it will bring a lot more girls and women into the sport by the use of aerobics and sport to introduce the activity.

“We believe once they have played some table tennis they will enjoy the sport and become long term participants.”

The £200k in the fund is made up of £60k for small grants and £140k for large-scale projects.

Small grants of up to £2k are available and must meet one or more of three priorities which are getting people active in your area, getting people active to help long term health conditions and changing the environment.

The larger grants are for anything over £2k and must meet the same criteria as the smaller grants.

Sharon Barker, Middlesbrough Council’s Voluntary Sector Coordinator, said: “This is a great opportunity for groups to receive the help they require in setting up or developing projects to help people get active and improve their health.

“We have already helped three brilliant programmes and hope to help many more through this fantastic public health initiative.”
