Farewell to Alice with Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

Screen Shot 2015-06-23 at 14.20.15A MONTH of Alice activities will come to an end this weekend in spectacular style, with a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

Over the last three weekends Sunderland city centre has played host to a range of events inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic tale.

And following on from the giant maze, the Eat Me Drink me celebration and Down The Rabbit Hole themed activities in Market Square, the final two days of events now move to the Sunniside area of the city.

A giant Mad Hatter’s Tea Party will take place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, with everyone invited to dress up and take part.

There will also be 150 golden balloons available each day for the first visitors to pop, with the opportunity to win prizes and receive special offers.

“Our Alice in Wonderland events have been a lot of fun and helped to boost trade in the city centre,” said Ken Dunbar, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID which organised the events.

“We hope that people will return this weekend and help us celebrate the final event in style.”

The Mad Hatters Tea Party will be supported by a whole range of additional activities including lawn games, stalls, workshops and live entertainment.

There will also be a number of Alice-related events taking place during Sunderland’s Thursday late night shopping evening, with free parking in council car parks from 3pm and at the Bridges from5.30pm.
