On Thursday 5 November, residents and visitors can enjoy a spectacular display set to famous pieces of sci-fi music.
This year’s theme celebrates the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who and the impending arrival of the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens film. The free fireworks display will begin at 7.30pm when a stunning pyrotechnics display will dazzle Stockton’s skyline above the River Tees for approximately 25 minutes.
Live entertainment starts at 6pm and will be provided by a BBC Tees Radio Roadshow, hosted by Ali Brownlee and Lisa McCormick. Renowned local comedian Patrick Monahan takes to the stage to treat the audience to a family-friendly version of his stand-up routine.
Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: “Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is proud to host one of the biggest and best free fireworks display in the country.
“This organised event is much cheaper and safer than hosting your own display so I would encourage everyone to bring their family and friends down to Stockton for an exciting and fun night out.
“We are expecting over 25,000 Borough residents and visitors from further afield to be heading to Stockton’s Riverside to enjoy a magnificent evening – come and join us!”
Costumed characters from both series will also arrive in Stockton, including stormtroopers and Daleks on the High Street.
As part of the event Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is working with Who Ray!, an independent retailer based on Silver Street in Stockton, to offer residents the chance to win fantastic sci-fi themed prizes.
Free raffle tickets are available from Who Ray! from Monday 2 November until 6pm on Thursday 5 November and the prize draw will take place live on stage during the BBC Tees Radio Show on Stockton Riverside.
There will also be a range of food stalls and a fun fair on the site.
