Thirsk is busy preparing for its first ‘Big Spring Clean’.
Residents, local businesses and organisations are being encouraged to join forces on 18 March to usher in a smart new look for spring.
Organised by Thirsk Town Council in partnership with Hambleton District Council, the event
Will be led by six teams comprising of: Thirsk Yarnbombers, Thirsk Town Council, Thirsk Cricket Club, Thirsk Community Library, Rotary Club of Thirsk and Thirsk Rotary in Bloom.
They are aiming to get the town ready not just for the new visitor season, but also for the visit of the Tour de Yorkshire on 5 May.
“The visitor economy is vitally important to Thirsk,” said Councillor Mark Robson, Leader of Hambleton District Council.
“Visitors are choosy about the places they visit so we need to ensure that our historic town looks welcoming and inviting – it is in everyone’s interest to work together and keep Thirsk on the visitor map. The district council is very supportive of this initiative and I hope to see it becoming a regular event.”
The clean-up is taking place from 10am to 12noon and residents and businesses are invited to meet at Thirsk Clock in the Market Place and join one of the teams. All welcome. For more information, contact Thirsk Town Council on 01845 526445
