Five-Figure Investment Enhances Slaley Hall in Hexham

LUXURY Northumberland hotel Slaley Hall has boosted its credentials as a premier wedding destination in the North following interior and exterior refurbishment works.

A £20,000 cash injection has seen the hotel’s outdoor pagoda found in the Ornamental Garden restored, creating a stunning setting with a difference where couples can tie the knot or have their photography captured on the day.

Additionally, the gardens have been fully landscaped with improved accessibility for wedding ceremonies and events, featuring new flowering plants, ornamental grasses, shrubs and trees, as well as lighting adding to its ambience.

Formerly known as the Japanese Garden, the grounds are home to a now rare example of a rock garden which was originally designed and installed pre the Great War in 1914-1918, by the then world-renowned Backhouse Nurseries of Acomb, near York.

A further £5,000 spend has uplifted conferencing facilities in the Kielder Suite which can host up to 150 guests, with new décor, furnishings and draping. A neutral colour scheme has been introduced to allow for the impressive room to be tailored to the chosen theme.

Andrew Fox, general manager at Slaley Hall, said: “This investment significantly enhances our weddings offering as our outdoor pagoda is a truly unique backdrop for a memorable day. Inside of the hotel, improvement works to our Kielder Suite make it an attractive conferencing and events venue in a stunning countryside location, and we’re looking forward to showcasing our new look.”

Slaley Hall hotel manager James O’Donnell added: “Our Ornamental Garden is a hidden gem ideal for wedding photography and thanks to our on-site estates team, it has been rejuvenated so that by the spring we will be able to accommodate wedding ceremonies in the space. It offers free access for visitors to see unusual plantings of Japanese origin, including bamboo grass and spend time in a tranquil, nature-filled environment.”

The four star Edwardian mansion is set in 1,000 acres of Northumberland countryside, offering short breaks for leisure and business stays, as well as weddings, conferencing and events.

Additional hotel facilities include two award-winning championship golf courses, a spa, health club and multiple restaurants and bars.
