Four Legged Friends Not Forgotten at Christmas

IMG_6094-1

Kind-hearted support from Gosforth bark Pet Supplies, The Dogs Trust and generous members of the public has brought a welcome boost to the People’s Kitchen, with dozens of doggie gift packs donated for people who use the charity’s services and have pet dogs.

Around 40 of the People’s Kitchen’s Friends are proud dog owners, and the companionship and friendship provided by their four-legged friends is invaluable. The donated packs include chews, collars, toys, and other dog-related goodies, helping to bring joy to both people and their pets.

Volunteer Jayne from Burnopfield said:

“For many of our Friends, their dogs are their constant companions and a real source of comfort. These gifts show that people care about them and their pets, and that means a huge amount.”

Trustee Jackie Boardman added:

“We are very grateful for these doggie treats. We know how important pets are in providing comfort, routine and companionship, especially for people experiencing isolation or poor mental health. These donations help lift spirits and support emotional wellbeing as well as morale.”

The People’s Kitchen has been supporting vulnerable people across the North East of England since 1985. The charity provides hot meals, clothing packages, toiletries, food, and sleeping bags to people who may be sleeping rough or who have recently been placed in housing with no belongings. Run entirely by volunteers, The People’s Kitchen serves around 300 hot meals every day, 365 days a year.

This Christmas period, supporters can help make a real difference. For just £5, donors can provide a hot festive meal, companionship, and essential support for someone who would otherwise go without. The campaign is about more than food – it’s about friendship. As the charity is run entirely by volunteers, every penny raised goes directly to supporting people in need, with any funds not used during the festive season helping to provide meals throughout the year ahead.
