GATESHEAD Football Club are delighted to announce that defender Fraser Kerr has agreed a new one-year deal at the International Stadium.
The Scottish centre-back signed for the Heed in July 2017 and went on to make 38 appearances over the 2017/18 campaign, scoring one goal.
And after a summer of uncertainty on Tyneside, Kerr is pleased to finally commit to the club for next season.
“It feels brilliant,” admitted the former Motherwell defender.
“It’s been a really long summer as I’m sure it has been for the fans and everyone at the club. Everything was a bit up in the air so I’m delighted to be here and finally sign the contract.
“It wasn’t that difficult a decision really. I’ve always said from the outset that staying at Gateshead is my priority but with what has been happening behind the scenes, everything was a bit touch and go for a while.
“I’m delighted to be here and looking forward to getting started again.”
The 25-year-old was realistic about the club’s situation but is still feeling positive about the challenges next season will bring.
“As everyone knows, the budget has been cut which will bring new challenges,” Kerr continued.
“But after speaking to the gaffer, we’re both confident that the club can move forward next season.
“We’re optimistic that we can go out there and maybe surprise a few people as well.
“The manager has shown a lot of faith in me so I just want to repay that with my performances on the pitch.”
Gateshead boss Steve Watson was delighted to secure one of his key targets for the new season.
“I’m over the moon to have Fraser tied down for next season,” Watson admitted.
“He’s one of the three main players who’ve been patient that I wanted to keep so I’m happy to get the first one over the line.
“It’s great to get the ball rolling and have players on board but there’s still plenty of work to do.”
