Further £14 million housing win for Surgo

As demand for new homes continues to rise across the UK, Surgo Construction, one of the region’s leading building contractors, has added a new executive housing development, for Medburn Homes, to its portfolio with a contract that is valued at around £14m.

This latest contract brings the total number of homes that Surgo has under construction to 164 across five residential developments which include both the private residential and affordable homes sectors.

Working on behalf of developer Medburn Homes, Surgo has been appointed after competitive tender to construct 50 large executive four and five-bedroom homes on a 4.1 hectare site at Medburn, Ponteland.

The development, which is in an exclusive and well-established residential area, will be known as Medburn Park.  Designed by Blake Hopkinson Architecture of North Shields, Medburn Park will respond to the lack of executive housing in Northumberland with a range of prestige properties, built to the highest standards and featuring seven different house types.

Built in four phases over a 120-week construction programme which is due to conclude in September 2020, construction began at the end of June. The first properties available for sale are due to be released mid-August, with the first houses ready for occupation in January 2019.

Meanwhile, at Stannington, construction of 34 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes for client Willow Homes has moved on apace, as Surgo’s site team gears up to create the marketing suite to facilitate the sales team’s arrival on site.

This work is expected to complete within the next 10 weeks, following which, the contractor’s focus will shift towards completing the show homes and associated visitor parking and landscaping as well as the first seven homes to be released for sale.

Speaking about the buoyancy of the residential sector and Surgo’s success in winning new work within it, managing director, James Walker, said:

“We have developed extensive experience over the years of building high quality new homes.  We are now building 164 new homes at the same time, which is an impressive number of properties, given that we don’t solely focus on the housing market, so we are very pleased to announce this new project win and are hopeful it may lead to further residential development work in the future.”
