NORTHUMBRIAN beef and game are sharing the billing with turkey at two popular North East pubs in the run-up to Christmas.
From 1 to 24 December, The Runhead, at Ryton and The Sandpiper, at Cullercoats, are serving a festive menu packed with seasonal ingredients and classic dishes
Locally sourced produce is the star of the show, with a game terrine served with spiced plum and apple chutney heading the line up of starters and braised Northumbrian beef with horseradish mash, kale and a red wine jus to follow.
And parties of four or more who book the festive menu at either venue before 23 November will receive a free bottle of wine to enjoy with their meal.
The Sandpiper and The Runhead are part of Newcastle-based Malhotra Group plc’s stable of hotels, bars and restaurants and their festive menu comprises four starters, mains and desserts.
Joining the game terrine, are winter vegetable and barley broth, prawn cocktail and a breaded brie, apple and walnut salad with cranberry sauce.
Then, along with the beef main course, customers can choose from stuffed turkey with pigs in blankets, salmon Wellington with cabbage, bacon and dill beurre blanc or a vegetarian option of mushroom ravioli with butternut squash, truffle butter, sage and toasted walnuts.
Those with a sweet tooth can then choose between Christmas pudding, crème brûlée with homemade shortbread, chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream and brandied cherries and red velvet cheesecake with raspberry ripple ice cream.
The Christmas Fayre menu is available from 1 to 24 December and costs £12.95 for one, £15.95 for two and £18.95 for three courses.
To qualify for a free bottle of wine, parties must be of four or over, and booking must be made before 23 November.
