Everyone is invited to come along and join in the fun at the annual Active Sunderland BIG Bike Ride which takes place on Sunday 12 June 2016.
With a focus on leisure, recreational and family cycling, the Active Sunderland BIG Bike Ride offers three alternative rides, providing a route to suit all ages and abilities.
All of the rides will start on the Riverside at St. Peter’s near Sunderland University. The longer 20 and 35 mile rides will utilise Sunderland’s expansive cycle path network visiting many areas across the city. The shorter 5 mile family ride will go along the excellent cycle paths from the riverside to Roker and Seaburn.
Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture, said: “We are delighted once again to organise the Active Sunderland Big Bike Ride. The event has been an outstanding success in previous years and has been very popular with hundreds of cyclists”.
He added, “Cycling is a great way to get active and have fun with your friends and family, whatever your age or ability. There are many new things to look forward to this year and I’m sure that the family fun activities and sports taster sessions will be a great addition to the main event”
In addition to the bikes rides a family fun programme of activities will take place during the day on the Riverside at St. Peter’s. The activities will consist of ‘have a go’ sports taster sessions and traditional family sports day activities.
