TICKETS are now on sale for Sunderland’s open air ice rink which will open later this month (November 24).

The frozen attraction will be the centrepiece at the city centre’s Frost Village, which returns this year with a packed programme of events throughout the festive season.

Organised by Sunderland’s Business Improvement District, the Frost Village will also feature winter markets, outdoor screenings of classic films as well as a Merry Monk Bar which will be selling hot Gluhwein for the adults to enjoy, all in Keel Square in the heart of the city.

The Frost Village will open on November 24 with an Ice Gala Extravaganza featuring displays from professional figure skaters, and will then be open each day until Christmas Eve.

There will be training and disco sessions, and the rink will also be available to hire for private group sessions and parties.

Ken Dunbar, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID, is looking forward to welcoming skaters back to the city centre once again.

“There’s something magical about an open air ice rink at Christmas time and we are delighted to be bringing it back to Keel Square as part of our Frost Village,” he said

“Last year’s event proved to be a huge success, and we are confident that this year will be even better. We hope it will bring in more visitors to the city to see what we have to offer here in Sunderland, and I’m sure no-one will go home disappointed.”

The ice rink will open to the public Monday to Friday from noon to 9pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-9pm. Last admission will be 8.20pm

On Christmas Eve it will be open from 10am-6pm, but pre-booking is advised to avoid disappointment.

Prices start at £6.50 for children aged 12 and under, £7.50 for adults and over 12s, and family tickets are available for £25.

There is also a discount of £5 off a family pass available to users of the Great North Snowdogs app if they scan the selected dog in Sunderland before the trail ends this month
