An Architectural Technologist with a passion for drawing has rejoined the company that helped propel forward his career.

Gradon Architecture has strengthened its team with the appointment of Graeme Kirkley as Technical Director – four years after he previously worked for the company.

Graeme’s expertise and technical knowledge of construction design will support Gradon’s future growth and the development of the company’s dynamic young team of staff. He rejoins the practice after spending four years as a design manager at a large national contractor and brings with him a wealth of experience of the changing construction industry which will inform how Gradon works with contractors going forward. Prior to that he worked as a Technical Director at Gradon for eight years and at another practice of architects for 23 years.

Graeme said: “I’m thrilled to get the opportunity to rejoin the team at Gradon and work on an exciting variety of projects at the delivery stage both in the UK and overseas. Architectural design has always been a big passion of mine – I even loved drawing at school – and I enjoy working out how all of the elements of each scheme fit together. It’s rewarding to see the final result of each project and I firmly believe that architecture plays a key role in shaping the quality of people’s lives.”

Established 15 years ago by husband-and-wife team, Graham and Donna McDarby, Gradon is an award-winning practice of architects that has worked on a variety of projects throughout the UK and across the globe, including Mongolia, Jordan and Turkmenistan. Its team of staff is made up of architects and architectural technologists located in studios in the North East of England, as well as in strategic project locations throughout the UK and across the world. The company has a strong track record in the industry and is currently involved in several exciting projects, which include student residential, retail, church conversions, commercial, industrial and strategic mixed-use master-planning projects.

Graham McDarby, Managing Director of Gradon, said: “We’re really excited at the prospect of having Graeme back on board. He started his career in the industry at the tender age of 16, and his wealth of experience will be invaluable as we look to grow the business and develop our exciting young talent.”
