Further grants for community projects provided by Ryedale District Council

Ryedale District Council awarded funding to a further 25 local community groups at the recent Policy and Resources meeting. Eight ‘Public open space and recreation grants’ were also made.

“In the 2017/18 year, we awarded over 70 grants to various groups, charities and Town or Parish Councils throughout Ryedale. The variety of groups and projects that come forward is always surprising and the amount of volunteer commitment in Ryedale is very heartening,”   said Cllr Steve Arnold, Chair of the Grants Working Party which recommends the grants for approval.

“In this round we were able to support two projects providing support for Young Carers in Ryedale. Caring for a family member with a health or disability issue can affect a child’s self-confidence, education and even their own health.”

Ryedale Carers Support and Community Counselling (North Yorkshire) have received grant offers to support work directly with children in Ryedale that are fulfilling a caring role.

Stephen Robling, Chief Officer of Community Counselling said

“We are delighted to receive a grant from Ryedale District Council for our Young Carers Service. Through the service we want to help children and young people who find themselves responsible for their parents and/or siblings, in what can feel a complete reversal of the normal parent/child relationship. We want to provide a safe space for these children and young people to express their worries, problems and hopes for the future, and to provide emotional support to enable them to live happier and more fulfilling lives.’

The grant funds will continue in the next financial year. The next closing date is 14 May 2018. Further information regarding how to apply is available on the Ryedale District Council website – search Community Grants.
