Green Beans Market seeks new stalls as Whitley Bay community event flourishes

On Sunday 27th August the Green Bean Market is on again at 10am in the Whitley Bay Metro Station, and they are on the look-out for innovative new stalls! As market organisers said, “starting small in the friendly setting of the community run market is the perfect opportunity to try out an idea and get feedback and help doing it!”. The market aims to support businesses that focus on food, produce and up-cycling – with a creative focus. This month will be a particularly special market as it ties in with the Whitley Bay Film Festival and the 8.30pm screening of the film ‘Brief Encounter’ in the Station Master’s Community wildlife Garden next to the Station. There will be an increased diversity of stalls including food and drink such as Ugly Duckling Juice, Pulp Fiction, information stalls on gardening, and charitable organisations such as Marie Curie, Northumberland Wildlife Trust and Pass It On Skills. Amongst other musical treats, the very popular Bay Ukes will be back performing on the platform, and there will be cooking demonstrations to tempt the curry lovers palate with local chef Asu Miah.

The monthly market is supported by Nexus and North Tyneside Council and is run by the community for the community. The majority of stall holders come from within a 2 mile radius and over the last year, several new businesses have been established, and now have spread their wings to bigger enterprises. An example is “For the Love of the North” – selling North East gifts, prints and cards all sourced directly from ]artists who live, breathe and work in the North East of England. For the Love of the North have now opened their shop in central Whitley Bay.
