THE world’s biggest 5k inflatable obstacle course is set to raise thousands of pounds for local hospitals when it heads to Teesside this year.

GUNG-HO! Seriously Fun 5k comes to Wynyard Hall on Saturday 31 March 2018 and South Tees Hospitals Charity has been named as the event’s local partner.

The charity is now looking for 15 volunteers to help out on the day as well as appealing for fundraisers to take on the fun-packed course of inflatable walls, mazes and slides for their chosen hospital service.

Volunteers must:

 be mentally and physically able to steward and fulfil an assigned crew role

 be available to complete a full shift at the event from 8am to 4pm

 be 16 years old or over

In return for their efforts, volunteers will get the chance to enjoy the course before it opens to the general public and will receive a Gung-Ho! packed lunch and free parking!

Charity Hub Manager Thomas Harrington said: “It’s a new, fun, exciting event for Teesside and a fantastic way to raise money to help local hospitals.”

Alex Winters, the former BBC presenter who came up with the event, said: “We are so pleased to team up with South Tees Hospitals for our visit to Teesside.

“Helping out important causes has always been an important part of Gung-Ho!, with tens of thousands of pounds raised for charities around the country during the last three years of touring our whacky event, and hopefully we can help do the same for South Tees Hospitals.

“Equally, we rely on volunteers to help us out around the course – they are vital to helping the event be successful, so we hope to see as many people there representing the charity as possible, as well taking part on the course!

“For those taking part, we guarantee you will have the time of your life bouncing, slipping, sliding and skidding across some of the biggest inflatable obstacles on the planet. So come on Teesside, let’s see how Gung-Ho! you can go!”

The huge, fun-filled course – taking runners back to the days of TV shows like Fun House, It’s a Knockout and Total Wipeout – will be filled with enough air to inflate more than 75 million footballs.

Those taking part in the race in aid of South Tees Hospital Charity must be at least 4ft tall, and will receive a free ticket to the event and a t-shirt, providing they pledge to collect £50 or more in sponsorship.
