The Hairy Bikers will be switching on the lights at intu Metrocentre on Sunday November 16, heralding the official arrival of Christmas.
The twosome, known for their down-to-earth style of TV presenting and who have fronted up a number of top television cookery shows, are taking time out of their busy schedule to wish a “Merry Christmas” in person to shoppers on the day.
Si King, who is from the North East and Cumbrian Dave Myers have been a huge television success after stepping in front of the camera after years of working behind the scenes in TV and film production.
“It’s a thrill, a delight and very flattering to have been asked to turn on the intu Metrocentre Christmas lights,” said Si.
“It’s a real honour as the North East is my home, and for Dave, as an adopted son of Newcastle, it’s equally exciting. We’ll do whatever we can to make intu Metrocentre sparkle this Christmas.”
“We’re delighted to have the Hairy Bikers for our Christmas light switch on this year,” said Helen Atkinson, Marketing Manager at intu Metrocentre.
“They really are national treasures and because they have a North East connection, that makes it extra special.”
The turn on of the Christmas lights will kick start the shopping centre’s Christmas calendar of events which include extended weekday opening hours from 9am – 10pm and the launch of the free Santa’s grotto.
The switch on fun starts from 3pm on Sunday November 16.
