A relative newcomer to Newcastle’s thriving restaurant scene, the brasserie is already starting to build a reputation in the city and beyond as a place to enjoy superb food with a local twist.
The launch of its new menu, which is available all day, coincides with the opening of a new terrace area to offer an al fresco dining experience throughout the summer.
Designed by executive chef, Chris Wood, the menu is a celebration of great modern cooking and also the fabulous regional larder; with produce from the fields of Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire along with the seas off the Northumbrian coastline.
A selection of small eats includes Mac and Cheese Bon Bons, Craster Kipper Pate, Spiced Lettuce Cups and Popcorn Cajun Rabbit. Also on the menu is signature dish, Ingram Valley Lamb Loin and regular mains such as Turnbull’s of Alnwick Leek and Stilton Sausages, Toon Ale Battered Cod and Thai Spiced Scottish Mussels with Geordie Bakers Sour Dough Bread. Freshly made sandwiches, a range of desserts, local cheeses and Afternoon Tea (which can be upgraded with bubbly), and a breakfast menu are also available. Accompanying the fantastic food is a choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including specialist martinis from a vast range of gins that can be used to ‘engineer’ your own cocktail.
Commenting on the new menu, Chris says: “I’m passionate about using the best fresh and locally sourced ingredients to create fantastic dishes for people to enjoy. The great thing about Hawthorns is that we’re encouraged to be imaginative with the menus. We’re independently run so it’s not a usual corporate global hotel; we’ve been able to mix a lot of the local identity into everything we do.”
General manager at Crowne Plaza Newcastle – Stephenson Quarter, Andrew Fox, added: “We want customers to have a truly bespoke experience and we want to cater for all needs; whether someone would like to grab breakfast on the go, a light bite during a business meeting or a leisurely meal with friends and family, it’s up to the customer.
“Chris has done a fantastic job creating the menu. We have great food, drinks and eating areas which are complemented by live music from local musicians; together they create a unique and truly local dining experience and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to enjoy it.”
