North East law firm Hay & Kilner has hit the right note by adding solicitor Tom Clarke to its specialist employment law team.

After studying a music degree at Newcastle University, Tom changed his tune and went on to complete his Legal Practice Course and Graduate Diploma in Law at Northumbria University.

He is now working with employer clients on a wide range of workplace matters and is taking an active role in managing the growing number of employment tribunals in which the Newcastle-headquartered practice is acting.

Tom also works with the firm’s corporate team on business acquisitions and disposals, and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

He says: “Much of my legal training focused on employment matters and it’s an area in which I’m looking to build both my experience and my practical knowledge.

“I’m very much enjoying the variety of work that I get to do, and having the chance to help clients resolve specific issues through a live tribunal is a very interesting and stimulating challenge.”

Sarah Hall, employment partner and head of the commercial department at Hay & Kilner, says: “We’ve seen strong growth with the employment law team over the last year and have had an excellent start to 2019, with several new clients coming on board, demand growing for our various bespoke HR training services and an increase in the number of employment tribunals that we’re helping businesses of all sizes to manage and resolve.

“Ensuring we have the right resources in place to continue to meet client demand is central to our growth strategy and bringing Tom on board is the latest stage of this plan.

“He is a very capable lawyer who is already demonstrating his practical knowledge and expertise in live situations and we’re pleased to have him on the team.”

Established in 1946, Hay & Kilner is one of North East England’s leading independent law firms and provides a full range of legal services to businesses and individuals from both within and outside the region.
