Health club takes al fresco approach with new outdoor fitness classes

A Lake District hotel health club has launched summer holiday classes in Dragon boat racing, Nordic walking and paddle boarding to encourage more people to use the great outdoors to get fitter.

Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa health club is delivering a range of outdoor sessions aimed at inspiring participants to enjoy the spectacular outdoor summer scenery on and around Windermere.

The classes are designed to give members the chance to exercise ‘al fresco’ style over the summer holiday period.  The health club now runs more than 40 weekly indoor and outdoor fitness classes, blending the luxury of modern facilities with the beauty of the local landscape.

Andy Sharples from English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, who manages the Health Club at Low Wood Bay, says: “We’re in a unique position here with a newly refurbished health club and spa in one of the most beautiful, scenic settings you can imagine.

“Where else in the world could you walk out of the gym onto a jetty and get into a dragon boat, jump on a paddleboard or tackle a fell with some Nordic walking?

“Dragon boating and ‘Paddle-cise’ sessions on the water allow participants to improve core fitness in a completely different way.  Our aim is to use the light summer months to let more people try these outdoor fitness experiences with qualified instructors guiding and inspiring them.  The classes are becoming more and more popular each year.”

The fully refurbished health club features a reconfigured, spacious fitness studio with 40 cardio and resistance stations, express spa treatment rooms and modernised swimming pool and male, female and family changing areas.
