Almost 1000 companies will this week receive a postcard from the District Council listing ‘ten top tour tips’.
By following them they can get ready for the ‘tour’ – and by promoting it bring visitors into the district and into their business.
They include getting staff up to speed so they talk to customers about the race; dressing businesses in yellow and blue; adapting opening times to coincide with the event; being ready for bookings; and working together.
The authority has also created a series of information leaflets for business and communities on the route – they can be downloaded at Hambleton.gov.uk/tdy
Steve Cowley of Cowleys Cycles in Northallerton is already embracing the cycle race visit on May 1 – he has turned his shop yellow!
“The race will be an enormous boost for Hambleton and we want everyone to embrace the visit – businesses and residents alike,” he said.
“We urge everyone to do everything they can to increase the profile of the district. This is an amazing coup for Hambleton – the race will bring top riders to our region for the first time.”
The race spends three days in Yorkshire, with the last day – Sunday May 1 – riding through Hambleton. It visits Great Ayton, Stokesley, Hutton Rudby, Northallerton, Thirsk and Sutton under Whitestonecliffe before heading up Sutton Bank for a finish line in Scarborough. The Hambleton stage will see two sprints – one in Thirsk and the first King of the Mountains on Sutton Bank.
