Tavistock Hospitality, owner of Best Western Grand Hotel, has invested £75,000 in creating the new 1908 Sports Bar – named after the year Hartlepool United FC was founded as a professional club in a meeting held at the Swainson Street hotel.
Along with keeping up to date on the latest news and results from the League Two side, visitors to 1908 will also be able to enjoy a wide range of live sport, including all televised Premier League fixtures and boxing bouts, broadcast daily on three big screens and 10 TVs.
For those who prefer to be more hands on, the first floor bar also boasts table football, an American pool table and a darts board, along with a variety of events being held throughout the week.
This includes a Play Your Cards Right interactive quiz game, with a £100 jackpot, every Thursday and live musicon Friday and Saturday evenings.
1908 Sports Bar, which replaces the hotel’s former Peal Bar, will be serving a selection of light meals and bar snacks during regular opening hours, with a nacho bucket and a 3kg chicken wing bucket for diners who like a challenge.
A variety of drinks promotions are also running throughout the week, including two pint beer steins and five pint towers, ideal for ensuring drinkers can enjoy all the sporting action without taking too many trips to the bar.
Stephen Banyer, Food and Beverage Manager at Best Western Grand Hotel, said: “1908 Sports Bar has been designed to pay homage to Hartlepool United FC, which was founded here, and offers supporters who can’t travel to away games the chance to still be part of the action.
“It’s also the ideal place to soak up the atmosphere before or after matches at nearby Victoria Park and to enjoy a whole host of other sporting fixtures, seven days a week.”
1908 Sports Bar is open from 10am until 11pm Sunday to Wednesday, with extended opening hours Thursday,Friday and Saturday.
