The work is to be carried out at Whitehill Way from Saturday 6 February to Wednesday 10 February between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
It will see the road closed between its Gibside and Wynyard junctions.
Access to Cragside, Lingholme and Whitehill Hall Gardens will be maintained with two way temporary traffic lights in place from the Wynyard side of Whitehill Way.
John Reed, Durham County Council’s head of technical services, said: “This work is part of our annual resurfacing programme to maintain the highway network in County Durham.
