Intern Adds New String to Education Bow

JB Skills Training has expanded its standing in the world of education by introducing a new opportunity for graduates with an intern scheme.

The first to join the company under the scheme being run in partnership with Sunderland University is Lynsey Surtees.

The 22 years from South Shields has landed herself the coveted position of marketing intern. The position will last for 12 months, and unlike many other intern schemes, is salaried.

Having graduated in business management Lynsey has a strong interest in marketing and social media and brings with her six months experience having worked for the business school at the university.

During her internship, Lynsey will be working closely with the whole marketing team, deputising for Kieron Hanlon, whilst he is assessing. The first challenge is to look at a rebrand and new website. Lynsey said:

“I am really excited to get this opportunity with JB Skills. They are a friendly and forwarding thinking team and are growing rapidly, getting a real strong standing in the training world.

“I am really keen to have a career in the creative industry and this gives me a good opportunity at having that in my future – hopefully I will be offered a full time position at the end of the twelve months.”

Outside of her career Lynsey, who lives with her sister Jemma and their cat Taboo, is passionate about music and attends many gigs, including Glastonbury this year.

Dave Macmillan, managing director for the Sunderland based company that operates across the whole UK, said:

“We offer functional skills, apprenticeships of most levels and bespoke packages for both companies and individuals, so add internships into the mix made perfect sense. Lynsey is challenged with some good marketing tasks and we are looking forward to seeing how she responds.”
