Isos is developing these 18 much needed affordable homes for rent, in partnership with South Tyneside Council, and the new homes will soon be advertised for residents aged 55 and over.
Contractors Able Construction began work on the site last Spring, and have made excellent progress to be nearing completion at this point in the year.
The development has been funded by Isos, alongside a contribution of over £600,000 from the Homes & Communities Agency.
The flats on Temple Park Road represent just one element of Isos’s current investment in affordable homes for South Tyneside.
The landlord is about to start work on 11 new properties in Boldon Colliery, and preparations are being made to build a 37 home development in Tyne Dock.
The three schemes between them add up to 66 homes and around £6.5m worth of investment in the borough.
Michael Farr, executive director of development and property at Isos Housing, said: “Delivering new homes like these is important work. We know that every one of these 18 flats will provide a safe, secure, affordable home for the new residents.
“We also know that those residents will benefit from a low cost of living, with high quality materials, and energy efficient heating.”
Councillor Allan West, Lead Member for Housing and Transport at South Tyneside Council, said: “It is really exciting to see this project to provide South Shields with additional affordable housing nearing completion.
“The creation of these new flats will benefit the whole community and I am sure those who move in will be proud to call them their homes.”
Anybody aged 55 or over who is interested in applying for one of the new Isos homes, needs to be registered with www.tyneandwearhomes.org.uk so they can bid for one of the flats when they are advertised later this month.
