County Durham shipping container and self-storage businesses, the Parsons Containers Group, has appointed a finance director to support the company’s expansion in the North East and across the UK. Chartered accountant Helen Parsons has joined the Sedgefield based firm, bringing over 10 years’ experience in auditing and finance to the new role at the business. For Helen, it’s a move back to the North East to the company founded by her father, CEO Ean Parsons.
Helen Parsons has held senior roles in the UK and internationally, and in both practice and industry. She was most recently employed as senior manager of consolidation and reporting for Amsterdam based PVH Corp, the parent company for Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein. Helen has also gained significant experience with other leading firms including EY and KPMG.
Helen will now apply her wealth of experience to her new position at Parsons, supporting growth plans that were recently boosted by an investment of £825,000, secured through Maven Capital Partners from the Finance Durham Fund and the North East Development Capital Fund. The cash injection is set to be invested across the group’s portfolio of businesses over the next 12 months and the appointment of a finance director is a key step in managing that process.
Helen believes that now is the right time to join the business that was founded by her father in 2000. She comments: “I am really excited by my dad’s vision for the strategic growth of the Parsons Containers Group and in discussions with him it was clear that now is the ideal time to support that work with my own skills and experience. After 10 years of working in large cities, returning to Sedgefield provides a literal breath of fresh air. Outside of work I lead an active lifestyle and being here offers a very good work-life balance.”
Helen spends much of her spare time swimming, cycling (she owns three bikes, a legacy of her life in Amsterdam), running and travelling, among other active pursuits. As a veteran of five marathons, she has remained a member of local athletics club Sedgefield Harriers even when living abroad.
Ean Parsons adds: “I am delighted to welcome Helen to the Parsons Containers Group at what is a crucial time for the business following the recent investment. Helen is eminently qualified for this new role of finance director, so attracting her to Parsons is great news for the group. In a business context, having such a capable finance director will help us to develop to the next level nationally and regionally, and on a personal level, I am very pleased and proud to have her on board.”
