The Beeches Care Home, on Green Lane, Newtown, is hoping to raise money for charitable causes from the sale of their knitted goods.
The club is aiming to knit pom-poms for the Redcar Yarn Fairies Project, which sees the seaside town adorned with woolen decorations, as well as hats for Age UK’s Innocent Smoothie campaign.
To help get the group started, the elderly residents are appealing for donations of wool, knitting needles and volunteers.
“Following the Christmas break, the residents showed a real interest in being proactive and helping to raise funds for charity while learning a new skill,” said Sue Abdi, The Beeches manager.
“We’d like the community to get involved in the knitting club as much as possible, so anyone interested in taking part or donating knitting needles, wool or knitting patterns would be hugely appreciated.”
