Last chance to apply for free central heating

Darlington residents have until the end of October to apply for free central heating. As part of Warm Up North, Darlington Borough Council has been awarded government funding to install free central heating systems in homes that meet certain criteria.

Warm Up North is a partnership between nine North East councils and British Gas, helping households improve their energy efficiency.

You don’t have to be a British Gas customer to apply for this offer but to qualify you must:

  1. not have, and never has had, a central heating system
  2. be mainly heated by solid fuels and only has a partial, solid fuel-fired, central heating system or,
  3. use electric storage heaters as its main source of heating.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:

“We’ll be sending out letters to around 1,400 households across the borough that we’ve identified as most likely to be eligible. These include those in urban areas which don’t have gas central heating or in rural areas where they don’t have access to a gas supply.

“Obviously, we may not reach everyone, so we’re also relying on people to spread the word to family and friends as we’d like to see as many eligible people as possible benefit from this scheme.

“Not only can you get a free central heating system, which is the most up to date and efficient for your property, but that also means householders will save money on their heating bills and enjoy a warmer, healthier home. So don’t delay get in touch to find out if you qualify.”
