Let it glow, let it glow, let it glow!

Screen Shot 2015-11-10 at 09.04.00After he won North Tyneside Council’s campaign to design a festive light, Taylor Thompson will join Elected Mayor Norma Redfearn at the switch-on event on November 20.

And even more exciting for the New York School pupil, his snowman design will be one of the lights featured in this year’s display in Wallsend.

Taylor said: “I was really excited to win and I can’t wait to see my snowman all lit up – I hope it makes everyone feel Christmassy.”

Congratulating Taylor, Mayor Redfearn said: “I’m looking forward to meeting Taylor and his family later this month. His design is brilliant and will be a perfect addition to the display in Wallsend.

“The annual switch-on is a really lovely event, and I hope as many families as possible can come along and enjoy the festivities with me.

“I also like to encourage other children to join in with next year’s Design a Light competition, to be in with the chance to have their festive drawing up in lights.”

The event gets underway from 4.30pm outside The Forum Shopping Centre, Wallsend.

On the same day, and running until early Saturday evening, there will also be a Christmas market outside The Forum, as part of the council’s Winter Festival events programme. There will be lots of stalls, festive entertainment and the chance to meet real reindeer on the Saturday.

The ‘Design a Light’ competition takes place each year, and entries are now being accepted to feature in the 2016 display.

The drawing competition, running since 2007, is open to anyone living in North Tyneside, aged 18 and under.

The winning design will be the centrepiece of the council’s 2016 display and will take pride of place amongst the Christmas street decorations.

Drawings can be dropped off at any North Tyneside library or sent to The Events Team, North Tyneside Council, Quadrant East, Silverlink North, Cobalt Business Park, North Tyneside, NE27 0BY. Please include your child’s name, address and contact details.
