LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL…

THE organisers of a giant roller-skating event at Newcastle Racecourse this spring have announced a roll call of themed disco nights – covering everything from country and karaoke to girl power, rave and indie.

And tickets go on sale on Tuesday 17 February at 10am with pre-sale tickets available from 10am on Monday 16 February.

For eight weeks, from 2 April, the racecourse will be home to Skate Island and the centrepiece of the attraction – which will be open between Thursday and Sunday – is a giant rollerskating rink.

And every Friday night it will become a roller disco – with a different theme every week.

On 3 April, the Rodeo Roller Disco is aimed at country fans, with a karaoke theme the following week – 10 April – when a giant screen will display lyrics for those wanting to sing along.

Then a Neon Rave Roller Disco, with 90’s dance and rave music, will take place on 17 April and a special Date and Skate event for single skaters the following Friday.

May Day – 1 May – will bring R&B to the rink, with an Indie night on 8 May and Girl Power on 15 May.

Karaoke will return on 22 May and the final themed Friday – 29 May – will see a welcome return of the Rodeo Roller Disco.

Other themed sessions include student nights every Thursday and family friendly sessions on Saturday mornings from 9am until noon.

From noon onwards the clock will be turned back for Retro Roller – “a fully immersive” disco roller experience where participants will be encouraged to dress up.

Sundays will be an all-day family affair, where youngsters will be able to come along from 9am until 9pm.

And, alongside the rink, there will be a food and drink village with pop up bars and the best of the region’s street food providers.

Anyone booking will get a 90-minute roller skating slot – which includes skate hire – but can stay as long as they want to enjoy the food and drink attractions.

Before ticket lines open next week, there is still the chance to sign up in advance with the chance to win free tickets to a skate session and first access to tickets when they are released.

The winner of the free skate session will be announced this Sunday; 15 February.

Stuart Nurse, one of the co-directors of EVNT Inspirations, which is bringing Skate Island to the racecourse, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response online so far – thousands have signed up for pre-sale tickets already.

“We’ve received a huge number of comments from people saying how excited they are about Skate Island and we can’t wait to bring the event to Newcastle Racecourse.”

Prices will start from £7.50p for the family events, £10 for the student night and £15 for Retro Roller, plus a booking fee.
