Lights switch-on to bring Christmas cheer to Redcar

Redcar_and_Cleveland_Borough_CouncilREDCAR will be full of festive fun as the town’s Christmas Lights are switched on.

Taking place on Thursday, November 26, the evening of events will start at 4.00pm with Zetland FM presenters Julie Donaldson and Les Gunn warming up the crowds and presenting performances from the Zetland Primary School Choir, the One Voice Choir and Puma Cheerleading, before the lights get switched on at 6.20pm.

To flick the switch turning on Redcar’s lights the council and Zetland FM are looking for people to nominate one special family to get on stage and do the honours. If you have a family in mind, you can nominate by going to:www.zetlandfm.co.uk/Christmas. Nominations have to be in by Tuesday, November 24, at 12.00pm.

After the lights spring into life, stars of the show Only One Direction will close the show with a set of the boyband’s best known songs.

Earlier in the day, visitors to the High Street will have the chance to do a spot of Christmas shopping with a Christmas market running from 10.00am until 7.30pm, as well as children’s rides and entertainment.

Councillor Carl Quartermain, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Leisure, said: “The Christmas Lights switch-on is always a great event and having Zetland FM on board to bring the entertainment will ensure the evening is fun for all the family.

“I would invite all our residents to get involved and to nominate a family in the area to switch the lights on. This is a great way of recognising our deserving community members.”
