Local charity awarded grant to support people living with Dementia in the community

Silverline Memories has been presented with a grant of £2,500 from MAXIMUS Foundation UK to fund their monthly Tea Dances for the whole of 2018 so that they can continue to care for the social wellbeing of people living with Dementia in the community.

Sandra Hastings, Founder and COO of Silverline Memories, received the donation from Robert Winter, Chair of MAXIMUS Foundation UK, and Claire Taylor from MAXIMUS who nominated the charity for the grant. The grant will go towards funding Tea Dances twice a month so that people living with Dementia are able to find joy throughout the year.

Established in 2013, Silverline Memories is a volunteer-run charity that provides places to go and things to do for people living with Dementia in Newcastle and Gateshead. Completely funded by grants and the generosity of supporters, Silverline Memories facilitates a number of social opportunities in the area every month and provides specialist support to people living with Dementia. From Dementia Cafes and Tea and Dance, to Carer Support, a community garden and their new Memory Bus, they are committed to ensuring joy can be found and a fully active life can be lived after diagnosis.

MAXIMUS Foundation UK was established in 2015 with a remit of providing grants to local charities and non-profit organisations that support disadvantaged groups – particularly those contributing to personal growth and self-sufficiency in areas of health, employment and community development.

Rob Winter, Chairman, MAXIMUS Foundation UK said:

“The work Silverline Memories does is truly remarkable. The activities they arrange and the support they give carers and people living with Dementia provides a new lease of life that many would not think possible following a Dementia diagnosis. I’m really proud we are able to support a cause that has such a big impact on improving the quality of life for some of our most vulnerable citizens.”

Sandra Hastings, Founder and COO of Silverline Memories said:

“We are very grateful to MAXIMUS Foundation UK. A grant this size will allow us to deliver two Tea Dances a month for the whole of 2018. Our Tea Dances are attended by an average of 40 people per month, with over 100 attending our Christmas Dance.  The dances bring such joy to those who attend them, and being able to guarantee these events for the whole of 2018 is wonderful.”

MAXIMUS Foundation UK has donated £150,000 in grants to charities and community groups over the last two years. They continue to encourage MAXIMUS UK employees to nominate charities and causes close to their hearts for grant donations.
