Golfers from around the North East went head-to-head to help support the region’s oldest children’s charity in their 125th year.
The Children North East Golf Day took place on Tuesday 20th, September at one of the North East’s most challenging courses, Close House.
The friendly tournament attracted golfers of all standards who were invited to play in teams of four. Playing alongside corporate teams were teams from the Sunderland ’73 FA Cup Winners and the Newcastle ’71 Fairs Cup Winners. Old rivalries came to the fore, but the Sunderland team outshone all the rest by winning the tournament.
Carol Taylor, Senior Fundraiser at Children North East, said: “This event was a wonderful opportunity to get together and raise some funds in aid of charity. Here at Children North East we are always looking for new enjoyable ways for people to get involved with us and this was an excellent example of a fun day out becoming a chance to help some of the region’s poorest children.”
As part of their round of golf, players had the chance to win a Hyundai i30 from Lookers Hyundai, by getting a hole in one. There were also prizes for Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive, as well as a chance to ‘Beat the Pro’.
