LOCAL MUSICAL TALENT has the chance to take the stage alongside the star acts at this year’s Sunniside LIVE Festival (6,7 July).
Headline acts over the open-air, city centre weekend event include Soul II Soul, Artful Dodger, the Lightning Seeds, CAST, Reverend & the Makers and The Bluetones.
Joining them on stage on Saturday will be the winners of this year’s online Sunniside Live Battle of the Bands, with online voting open now until June 3 for all the bands appearing on the Sunniside LIVE Festival website https://www.sunnisidelive.com/
Event organisers Helen Davies and Sean Maddison, appealed for up-and-coming local acts to join the line-up by opening up an online Battle of the Bands Competition to find the best of the best.
The competition which was open to solo performers and bands of all genres, gave new acts the opportunity to apply to play along ide this year’s Saturday headliners.
Members of the public can now go onto the Sunniside Live website and view all the applicants. They are then asked to vote for their favourite. The voting closes on June 3 and the winners will be officially announced shortly afterwards.
Lead singer from ‘Social Room’ the winners of first Battle of the Bands at Sunniside Live 2015 who went on to secure a record deal, Matty Smith. said: “It was a great opportunity to play at the battle of the bands and have a chance to play at Sunniside Live.
“We had a great night and the place was packed. The gig opened up a lot of doors for us and gave us a chance to show case our music on a big stage in front of a massive crowd.”
Event organiser, Helen Davies, added: “This is an opportunity for up-and-coming acts to hit the stage in front more than 4000 music lovers and share the bill with some of the industry’s finest artists.
“ We have inundated with acts wanting a chance to perform at this year’s festival. We couldn’t possibly have chosen out of them all so we instead we to let the public decide.”
Sunniside Live 2018 will run from 4pm until 11pm on Friday July 6 and 12noon to 11pm on Saturday July 7, with a number of food stalls, licenced bars, VIP area, and other attractions open throughout the day.
