A NEWCASTLE bar is giving would-be entertainers the chance to prove they’re not chicken, with a unique weekly event.

Louie’s Liquor Store, at Nelson Street, launched last week (6 and 7 December) with an ambitious entertainment programme, which promises a lively atmosphere every night of the week.

And any budding performers can put their talents to the test at Sing for Wings – an open mic night where the audience decides whether to award a singer with a free serving of chicken wings for their efforts.

Hosted by David Stoker, the event will take place every Tuesday evening and patrons can also take advantage of discount wings, priced at 30p each.

Anyone looking to increase their chances of impressing an audience could start with one of these wing-inspired options:

–       Wind Beneath my Wings – Bette Midler

–       Wings – Little Mix

–       Wings We Lost in the Fire – Bastille (Things We Lost in the Fire)

–       Wing It All Back – S Club (Bring It All Back)

–       Colours of the Wing – Disney’s Pocahontas (Colours of the Wind)

–       Wingle Ladies – Beyonce (Single Ladies)

–       Wingful of Asha – Cornershop (Brimful of Asha)

–       Wing Me To Life – Evanescence (Bring Me To Life)

–       Wing Wing – All American Rejects (Swing Swing)

–       Wings – Birdy

–       Wingle Bells (Jingle Bells)

James Douglas, of Louie’s Liquor Store, believes the event is a great way to break up the work week.

“We wanted give the classic open mic night a bit of a shake up and we just fell in love with the idea of Sing for Wings,” said James.

“It’s a perfect event to come along to with friends or work colleagues and, whether or not they decide to get on stage, we’ve also got a great deal on chicken wings all night.

“It’s all a bit of fun and people can sign up to sing on the night, so we hope people will get in the spirit of things and give it a go.”

Other events at Louie’s Liquor Store throughout the week include a quiz night with built-in food challenges on Wednesdays – which starts on 18 December – comedy nights and live music.
