The Mayor of Redcar & Cleveland Mayor Councillor Karen King joined residents to enjoy a summer fete at the recently opened The Dunes in Redcar.
The community event, which was organised in partnership with Comfort Call welcomed residents, members of the community and more than 15 local businesses which set up stalls selling locally produced goods, including crafts, homemade cards, cakes pies and jewellery.
A fire appliance from Redcar Fire Station was popular with the younger visitors, as was face painting, and entertainment which was provided by the Grangetown Jazz Band and a DJ. The Bistro was also buzzing with people enjoying a bite to eat.
Through the raffle and tombola, the fete raised more than £800 for the residents’ fund at The Dunes which will be used to fund future activities and functions.
The second Redcare Extra Care supported housing development, The Dunes is an innovative development of 64 one and two bedroom extra care apartments to rent for those aged 55 and over. The site has extensive communal facilities, with on-site care and support available 24/7, 365 days a year.
Iain Sim, chief executive of Coast & Country Housing, said: “The summer fete was a fantastic event for all members of the local community to enjoy.
“The event very much ties in with The Dune’s community-driven ethos and involved residents, members of the local community alongside local businesses.
“We were delighted to welcome the Mayor who thoroughly enjoyed herself and really entered into the spirit of the occasion.”
