A PAIR of massive ‘mega lungs’ will be the star attraction at a South Bank event marking Lung Cancer Awareness Month and promoting healthy lung checks.

The lungs, which are 12 foot high and 15 foot wide, will allow members of the public to walk through them and explore the structure of the lung and learn about the types of trauma and diseases lungs can suffer.

Hired from the Roy Castle Lung Foundation, the mega lungs will take their place at a healthy lung check event at Tesco Extra on the Trunk Road, South Bank on Friday 11 November between 10am and 4pm.

The lung health event will raise awareness around lung health and how to reduce the risk of developing lung cancer.  It will also remind people how important it is to have their lung health check when invited to attend by their GP, which can discover undiagnosed COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Cllr Lynn Pallister, Cabinet Member for Health & Housing, said: “The mega lungs are a very obvious and informative way of educating residents about how lungs work and how to identify regular ailments people can get.

“I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and find out more about keeping lungs healthy and reduce their cancer risk.”
