A LEADING Tyneside gastro pub is inviting everyone round for Christmas dinner with the launch of its new festive menus.
The Merchants Tavern at St Peter’s Wharf, Newcastle, has released its Christmas fayre and its Christmas Day menus, all of which feature locally sourced and hand cooked ingredients.
Launching today (November 21) are two lunchtime and evening Christmas fayre menus offering a selection of traditional favourites with a modern twist.
At lunchtime, diners can choose from three courses with prices starting at £18.95 while on an evening, there is a choice of four or five courses from £24.94 per head.
The Merchants Tavern is also offering to do the hard work on the big day this year, serving Christmas dinner from noon to 4pm on December 25.
All dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients and include butter roast bronze turkey breast, venison pie and rare breed suckling pig.
Head chef Ronald Robson has worked hard to create a festive menu which he feels will appeal to all. “When it comes to Christmas a lot of people are creatures of tradition and only want turkey, but we are well aware that many don’t,” he said. “So we have created a menu which we hope will cater for everyone.
“As well as turkey, we have things like 72 hour cooked short rib of beef and roast turbot, all using the freshest ingredients we can source locally.
“The festive season isn’t a time for dieting, it’s about enjoying fantastic food so we’ve really gone to town with our four and five course evening dinners this year, with traditional favourites and new winter warmers which we hope will offer something for everyone.”
