Merit wins Specialist Aero Engine Facility contract

Merit Holdings has been awarded a contract for specialist engineering work on the new National Centre in Combustion and Aerothermal Technology (NCCAT) which is currently under construction at Loughborough University.

NCCAT, funded through a partnership comprising the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Aerospace Technology Institute and Innovate UK, with support from Rolls-Royce plc, will put Loughborough at the heart of UK aerospace engineering and technology development.  Due for completion in 2019, it will lead research excellence and technology deployment in low emission aero gas turbines, strengthening the UK’s ability to benefit from the predicted growth in the civil aerospace market. It will enable industrial problem-owners to visit and work closely with world-class academic researchers to ensure that new technologies are translated from theory to practice as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

Merit will construct and install a number of process pipework and ductwork systems within the new facility and manage a comprehensive testing and commissioning programme with the NCCAT team. The pipe and ductwork system will serve a number of test cells within the various rigs that are built to simulate aircraft engines.

Tony Wells, Managing Director, Merit Holdings, said: “We are very proud to be involved in such a prestigious project, delivering specialised engineering solutions that will be an integral part of the testing process.  Our team will work closely with NCCAT throughout the project to ensure that is successfully completed to the highest quality.”

Operating since 1993, Merit is one of the UK’s leading engineering and construction specialists and prides itself on the ability to design and construct solutions for the most challenging circumstances.

The company operates from offices across the UK with its own in-house team of designers, pipe work fitters and electricians, who are all specially trained in highly regulated industries where quality of workmanship is vital.
